Above is a downy woodpecker on the suet feeder that hangs outside my window.
Below is picture of a few sparrows at that same suet feeder. Sparrows seem to have a talent for getting themselves in trouble around here. Just last week I had to free one that had gotten her foot stuck in the feeder. Before that a sparrow had actually gotten herself trapped inside one of the feeders and I had to get her out.

You know I am obligated to comment on entries about birds! It's funny because I came to your site just now to show you a link to someone's awesome photo album with beautiful pictures of insects and reptiles and tons of other things.
Here is the site with the super cool pictures:

Do you have a bird bath? It is fun to watch them splash around. Upstate we have a bird bath, bird feeders, and flowers that birds like. A hummingbird flew in our house once, which was an interesting adventure.
I do have a bird bath out front near the feeders. The sparrows really love to splash around and take baths.
It seems like it would be really difficult to get a hummingbird out of your house. I had a dove fly in a while ago but she was easy to catch and release back outside.
Yeah it seems like it would be very difficult! Especially when it is a huge house with two floors and almost no walls!
it has a very open design and the kitchen, dining room, and living room are all on the bottom floor (with no walls at all) and the upper floor has a huge landing area (with no walls again!). There are a bunch of bedrooms with doors and there is a study area that has a door but other than that it is wide open space.
To make it even better the dog we had at that time was a serious hunter and she was right behind the poor hummingbird the entire time. My mom was chasing the dog who was chasing the bird and she managed to save the bird with literally half a second to spare.
Good times!
